5 Ways to Know What You Want and Make It Happen

How is your life and/or your business doing? Is it okey or is it stagnating, boring, and going nowhere? Maybe you have something that you would like to change, improve or have a long-standing dream that you want to realize.
One aspect of living a satisfying life is to be able to implement what we really want to do. If you are at a stage where you feel that something is missing, then maybe it is time to take some positive steps towards something that will bring you more satisfaction in life. Take your dreams and aspirations seriously. You deserve to prioritize yourself and your development.
Make yourself a priority and book a time when you can check in with yourself. Find a quiet, comfortable space where you'll be free from disturbances and distractions. Make sure you have paper and pen handy as you will need to write for these exercises. Something magical happens when you write by hand. The brain and emotions connect more easily, and writing in flow helps you write directly from the heart.
- Brainstorm ideas
For the next fifteen to twenty minutes, write down everything you'd like to do. Don't evaluate as you write! For example, if you'd like to do something you have never done before, don't stop and think whether you can do this or if you can afford it. Just write it down. The evaluations comes later. Write down everything you would love to do with the assumption that there is nothing you can't do and that everything is possible!
- Prioritize ideas
When you have finished brainstorming, you'll now have a list of all the things you would like to do. Now it's time to review your list and sort it in the order your heart chooses. It's okay to dream big, it's fun, makes you feel good and costs nothing. What are the things that stretches you and excites you most? What are the things you get a good gut feeling about? - Pare down your list
Look at the top three items on your list and ask yourself the question: "What is stopping me from doing these things?" Write down these reasons. It'll help to clarify things for you. For example, if your number one choice is to create an online course about something you are passionate about, your reasons for not being able to do so could be: I can't leave my 9-5 job now, or I'm afraid I can't do this because this isn't something I know how to do. Try to understand where your fears come from. Are they valid? Or does it feel unobtainable because it's a new and untried idea? Try to think bigger than you usually do. - Evaluate
When you find something that really resonates with you, take your dreams one step further. What are the pros and cons? What is actually doable? How can you learn more about what you want to do? Are there courses or programs you could take? Can you learn something new and start something while still working at your regular job? Could you then reduce working hours to eventually to be able to invest more in your new idea so that it'll provide an additional income stream that can grow? How many different solutions can you come up with? Can you come up with ten? Fifteen? - Take action
What is one tiny step you can take now? What do you need to move forward? What could be one thing that you could let go of that no longer serves you, and that by doing so would free up more time, energy or resources that you could put to better use? Use your curiosity and take small baby steps, and your life can take a new and exciting direction.
This is an exercise you can do again and again. Play with the idea of change till it doesn't feel like an alien thought, but something that you can take further and investigate in more detail. Don't wait for a more opportune time. Someone said something the other day that really puts this into perspective: You are the youngest you are ever going to be right now. So don't wait for life to happen for you, take it into your own hands and make it happen.
